recollection -- risk when the temperatures drop. and. >> this view from a caltrans traffic camera shows interstate 80 in truckee this afternoon. there are no chain restrictions on either 80 or highway 50 in the sierra. thieves are targeting apartment buildings in order to get to your mail and one building has been sit several times. sergio quinn tan in is live with the story. >> am ma, apparently culprits got into an apartment building in this neighbor twice last week. tonight, federal investigator has been assigned to the case, and residents and managers of the building are hoping that video surveillance of the break-in might help catch the robbers. from two different angle surveillance cameras got images of the crime in progress.

two men worked together on the break-in. the mail boxes were pried open and the thieves made off with bags of mail, including some packages. some residents are worried that documents like w2s could have been dispean may be used to steal their identities. a spokesman for the landlord says they're having to deal to getting mail to residents after damage the mail boxes. >> haven't changed the locks on the box, and the only ones can could that. so the presidents of the building have to personally take the mail and distribute it to tenants. >> kind of mail sorter by proxy. >> clearly there are marks on the mail boxes from the break-in, now, mail theft is a federal crime, and according to the u.s. postal inspector's office, an investigator has been assigned, and they are hoping that anyone who happens to recognize the two men in that

video will call san francisco police, or the u.s. postal inspector's office so they can make an arrest. reporting live, sergio quintana. >> ama: a 25-year-old marin city man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in her san francisco apartment. he was taken into custody last night. he forced his way into the victim's' as she was going in. officers believe during a subsequent robbery jones raped the woman. jones was found hide neglect backyard of the home. >> an oakland official says the city has lost control of the streets and believes its time to declare a state of emergency. those words from vice mayor larry reed in the wake of a bloody period on friday. four people were killed, including a teenage boy. police say the shootings are a result of gang shootings. the declaration would give the city funds from the state. police were busy during last night's 49ers playoff game

injury from an early morning fire. fire crews got a call from the sahara village mobile home park. firefighters found one unit fully involved in flames. the man inside got out safely. the unit was destroyed. >> complaints of eye and throat irritation brought out san jose's hazmat crew to the hilton hotel. 13 guests and staff members were treated. the problem was on the hotel's 18th floor. the odor went away on its own. >> still to come on abc7 news at 6:00, an outage at a very bad time. the bay area senior center that has been without hot water for days. >> a popular piece pizza place hit with major fine. >> the oscar battle

a popular pete a restaurant in san francisco has been hit for a fine with knopp compliance with the universal health law. paxti's chicago pizza will pay $320,000 in a settlement. the money provide health care

>> residents of a senior housing billing claim they have been without hot water since a week ago thursday. the problem is that town park towers, a 212 unit apartment in son jose for low income seniors. >> i took a shower last night and half of the time ai cold water. it's not hot water, it's cold water. so the cold water start right away and i was shaking. >> just don't care. we're old people. who cares about us. >> something is bren? >> ama: in a statement e-mailed to us management says a temporary replacement boiler system was installed on friday and that was the only day the entire building was without hot water. they do say hot water had previously been running low during peak times. >> it is cold out, and tonight temperatures are still expected

off the coast and it will be clear overnight this evening. it was cold this morning, wasn't it? here's a look at some temperatures, from this morning. 24, santa rosa. 38, san francisco, oakland, 35. 25 degrees this morning in livermore. 28 in redwood city. san jose, 26 degrees, and that sets a new record. now, tomorrow morning, temperatures will be much like this morning. maybe a degree or two. warmer, maybe a degree or two colder. but you can see that once again, well below freezing in many locations, accept -- santa rosa, 25. 32, oakland. 40 for redwood city, and 28 for san jose. beyond that, by tuesday morning, temperatures start to moderate a little bit. check out san francisco overnight low of 41 anticipated. 28 for livermore, and redwood city will actually manage before the freezings mark at 35 degrees. this slight warming overnight,

and also during the day, will coin through wednesday, thursday, friday. already 39 degrees right now. and it's 46 in san francisco, 41 concord, livermore, 41, san jose, los gatos, half moon bay, low 40s this hour, too. freezing temperatures overnight, cool morning, through mid-week, and then this whole work week will be dry and will gradually warm each day, especially the latter part of the work week. i want to check on those freeze warnings again for you for the entire bay area. you can see the dark shaded purple here, north bay, east bay interior valley, the bay shore line, that was included for overnight tonight and tomorrow as well as the santa clara valley. expect temperatures mid-20s to low 30s. your pipes, pets, and your plants, protect them. the only area that is light on the map for a frost advisory is san francisco, temperatures there low to mid-30s.

in fact here's the forecasted lows. north bay, mid-20s. for santa rosa, napa, east bay, antioch, 29. 32, oakland. 36, san francisco. 28, san jose. so that bubble of cold air that has been sitting over the bay area will start to shift towards the east as high pressure starts to build in, and it will do so monday, tuesday, wednesday, with the cold air moves to the east and we actually will enjoy a warming trend, especially the end of the week as temperatures climb back up into the mid-60s. tomorrow, all be in the 50s. 53 santa rosa, 52, napa. san rafael, 52. 5, san francisco. mid-to-upper 40s for antioch, livermore. gilroy, sunshine. and santa cruz, 52. the seven-day forecast, gal gradual warming, overnight during the day, by thursday, friday, saturday, temperatures climbing back up into the mid-to-low 60s. but lots and lots of sunshine and clear sky.
